Muziic Player, the free and legal application that’s changing the way millions of internet users obtain and listen to music

Muziic Player, a computer application downloadable from www.Muziic.com, allows users to search for songs from a pre-filled music library containing millions of tracks. The free and legal music service is developed by best friends Mark Nelson and David Nelson, who happen to be father and son.

Muziic resembles a traditional media player, a program that plays music from a user’s collection of songs. While typical media players - such as AOL® Winamp or Microsoft® Windows Media Player - work only with a user's own music downloaded previously into the player’s media library, Muziic comes “pre-loaded” with millions of tracks from YouTube - undeniably the world’s largest database of music.

When users open the Muziic Player application, they will see (among other things) a search box where text can be entered. By simply typing the name of a song into Muziic Player, hundreds, often thousands of results can be played or added to a playlist with a single click.

“It’s really the first 100% free, legal method for listening to digital music,” said 15-year-old David Nelson, Muziic CTO / Co-Founder. “Typically, free music services are not completely legal; on the other hand, legal music services are not usually free. My dad and I set out to create Muziic, the music service that is both free and legal.”

YouTube holds contracts with Universal Music Group, Sony BMG and EMI. Through the usage of Google’s YouTube Content ID Recognition System, artists are paid royalties based on the number of plays their song receives. "Because of YouTube's contracts with the record labels, satisfaction can be reached for our listeners and the artists themselves," stated David.

The fact that Muziic embraces the music community is a major key to its success. "Every track someone listens to in the player has been uploaded by another YouTube user,” Mark Nelson, Muziic CEO / Co-Founder, said.

When a user uploads a song from their personal music collection, it is sent to YouTube for processing and storage, and then syndicated through the YouTube API into the Muziic Player where anyone can listen to the song. “It’s amazing just how many songs are available. If you want it, chances are great that you will find it,” David said.

The Muziic.com website offers user-contributed playlists and channels, each ranked in directories sorted by category and arranged by popularity. Channels are the YouTube user accounts of those who have uploaded material, while playlists are sets of uploads arranged in a particular order, often to match an album’s track listing or a mixture of music from a certain era or genre. “While users are contributing to Muziic and promoting their own channel and videos, they are also helping build a great database of music for the entire community,” said Mark.

Also included with every download of Muziic Player is the Muziic Encoder, which allows users to drag and drop artwork to the application, along with an MP3 file. Muziic Encoder quickly outputs a video file ready for upload, containing the inputted image and audio in the background, while maintaining the MP3’s original sound quality. “The Encoder was designed to help people interact with other YouTube and Muziic users by creating their own channel to house their uploads. Muziic's unique combination of channels, playlists and forums, makes for an all-around fun time and builds extremely strong community," David said.
